Tuesday 5 November, 7 pm UK, 9 pm Israel. What can Cairo’s synagogues tell about the identity and social lives of Cairo’s Jews? How are they silent witnesses to the tumultuous 20th century history of Egypt’s Jews? Sacred Places Tell Tales: Jewish Life and Heritage in Modern Cairo (Penn University) invites readers on a journey through heritage, history, politics, culture, and the ongoing debate about whose heritage is the Egyptian-Jewish heritage. It is the result of years of dedicated research and passion.

Yoram Meital, Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at Ben Gurion University and a frequent visitor to Cairo, will present his new book.
