Before 1941, sizeable Jewish communities flourished all over the Middle East and North Africa. 2-4 June mark the 85th anniversary of the Farhud: a violent attack on the Jews of Baghdad, who had lived there for over 2,700 years. Today, that community exists no more — and neither do countless Jewish communities in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, and Yemen.

What happened? And how was the eradication of these communities related to the Holocaust in Europe?

The National Holocaust Museum are delighted to co-host an event with Harif, the UK Association of Jews from the MENA, and The Babylonian Jewry heritage Center in Or-Yehuda to explore these questions with a panel of experts, and to share some beautiful objects that illustrate the legacy of inter-cultural dialogue, co-existence and co-production.
