The Jews of Kerala
30 October 2013 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Wednesday 30 October – 8pm
The shores of Malabar in India witnessed the emergence of a miraculous community that lived for more than 2500 years and survived Christian conversions, Muslim persecution and the Portuguese Inquisition, until its mass migration to modern Israel in 1948.
Dr. Saul Zadka, story-teller, journalist and academic, spent two weeks in Kerala, talking to “white” Jews and “black” Jews. He visited graveyards and had dinner at the Menorah restaurant, located at Koder Hotel, named after the richest Jew who immigrated to India from Iraq in the 19th century. His illustrated talk is bound to prove entertaining and informative. Hampstead Garden Suburb synagogue, Norris Lea, London N2 0RE. Tickets £10. To book ring Harif on 0750603848 or Spiro Ark on 0207 289 6321.
