Moroccan Jews in the Americas

Tuesday 13 January 2026, 7:30 pm UK, 2:30 pm ET. The largest Jewish community in the Arab world, Jews in Morocco have a remarkable history of migration. In the 19th century they sought their fortunes in South America, settling in the Amazon. In more recent times they moved to the US and Canada.They have proved to be a resilient and enterprising community, and individual Moroccan Jews have excelled in their respective fields.

Dr. David Bensoussan has been a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the École de technologie supérieure de l’Université du Québec since 1980. As well as publishing in his chosen field, he is a polymath and prolific writer. He has produced writing on  subjects ranging from a bible commentary to a novel and articles on contemporary politics.  His main passion, however,  remains Morocco, where he was born. He has written scores of articles and given dozens of lectures. He has received several prizes for his work.

He has served as President of the Communauté Sépharade Unifiée du Québec and has been involved in philanthropic, community and interfaith organizations for many years. Recording here.
