Jews of Central Asia and the Silk Road

12 October @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Jews have lived  in Central Asia for over 2,500 years. Many believe they are descended from the Lost Tribes. Why they went there? Who are they now? We will take a  look at their lives and culture over the centuries. The talk will be based upon a study tour the lecturer took to Uzbekistan and the area a few years ago, plus research into the lives and activities of long-distance merchant Jews.

Our speaker Andrée Aelion Brooks is a journalist, author and lecturer specializing in Jewish history. Formerly a contributing columnist for the New York Times, she is an Associate Fellow, Yale University, and founder of the Women’s (political) Campaign School at Yale. Her award-winning books include a comprehensive biography of Doña Gracia Nasí.
