How can Middle Eastern Jews reclaim their heritage?
14 September 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The flight from Arab countries of almost a million Jewish refugees in the latter half of the 20th century entailed the abandonment or seizure of Jewish heritage – records, archives, documents, artefacts. However, Arab governments are now claiming that the heritage of exiled minority groups is part of their national heritage. What does international law say on the subject, what are the chances that Jewish heritage will be restored to its rightful owners, and what avenues – legal or otherwise – are open to them? Harif , together with the Simon Wiesenthal Center (Europe) , is proud to host an online discussion featuring Carole Basri, an activist on behalf of the Iraqi Jewish archive, Yves Fedida , campaigner for the Egyptian-Jewish heritage, Bruce Montgomery, academic expert on lost archives, as well as several prominent legal experts.
