Who owns Iraq’s looted Jewish treasure?

26 March 2014 @ 8:00 pm - 28 July 2015 @ 10:00 pm

 Wednesday, 26 March 2014 – 8pm

US government is getting ready to send back to Iraq a trove of Jewish documents and books, found in the flooded basement of the Iraqi secret police headquarters in 2003, and shipped out to Washington DC for restoration.

Many Iraqi Jews in Israel and the West are furious: to send back the trove is “like sending looting art back to the Nazis”. Or is the archive part of Iraq’s heritage?

Lyn Julius will tell the extraordinary story of the archive and the arguments for and against its return.

Hampstead Garden Suburb synagogue, Norris Lea, London N2 0RE. Tickets £10. To book ring Harif on 07506033848 or Spiro Ark on 0207 289 6321. (Photo: Handwritten Haggadah from 1902)
