The Judeo-Arabic Heritage
20 July 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Tuesday 20 July 2021, 7:00 pm UK time. Judeo-Arabic may be considered the premier Diaspora language. For most of the last 1400 years, Arabic, in its Jewish form, was spoken by more Jews than any other language. From the seventh until the end of the seventeenth centuries, the majority of the world’s Jews lived in the Dar al-Isliim (Domain of Islam). Furthermore, Arabic was spoken or used as a cultural language by Jews across a greater geographical expanse than any other language was. Professor Norman A Stillman returns to Harif to describe the development of the Judeo-Arabic heritage, from the 11th century Geniza to modern times. Video here.
