Post-67 backlash on Jews in Arab countries
28 June @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Tuesday 28 June, 7:30 pm UK. It is 55 years since Israel’s victory in the Six-Day War changed the politics of the Middle East. But it also led to a dramatic backlash on the few thousand Jews still living in Arab countries. Most of the last remaining Jews in Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia fled in the aftermath of the war, bringing communities established since Biblical times to the brink of extinction. Jews in Egypt were jailed and the Jews of Syria and Iraq were subject to a reign of terror and kept as virtual hostages. In almost all Arab countries there were demonstrations and anti-Jewish riots. Jews who escaped Libya, Egypt and Iraq will share first-hand accounts of their experiences.
