Can the Middle East’s vanishing minorities be saved?
21 May 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Thursday 21 May
Holland Park synagogue, W11 (5 mins from Westfield, Shepherd’s Bush). 7.30pm. Beheadings, women and children sold into slavery, Yazidis and Christians are in the news: those who can, are following the Jews into exile. What future do ancient non-Muslim sects and communities have? Gerard Russell, a British and United Nations diplomat for 14 years and the author of the acclaimed ‘Heirs to the Forgotten Kingdoms,’ will share with us his knowledge and thoughts.
Gerard Russell lived in Cairo, Jerusalem, Baghdad and Kabul and for four years after leaving the Foreign Office he researched a neglected topic: the Middle East’s vanishing minority faiths. Using a knowledge of Arabic, of history and philosophy, he looked at their beliefs, their history and their prospects for survival in an increasingly hostile region. Followed by Q&A. Discounted copies for sale. Light refreshments. Booking £5 through the synagogue secretary on 0207 603 7961 (email@example.com) or Harif (firstname.lastname@example.org) on 07506033848.
