In May 2021, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) created a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This ongoing, permanent commission will publish reports every June to the UNHRC in Geneva and every September to the UN General Assembly in New York. There is heightened concern that the Commission’s report will refer to Israel as an “apartheid state.”
The Commission invites individuals, groups, and organizations to submit information and documentation relevant to its mandate. HARIF is teaming up with JIMENA to demand that the experiences of our parents and grandparents, the one million Jewish refugees from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), be no longer ignored or erased by the UN. We insist that the UNHRC consider the human rights violations endured by Jewish refugees from Arab Countries and Iran whose descendants now comprise more than half of Israel’s Jewish population. If you have a story to tell, fill out this form for yourself and/or your Jewish family members from the Middle East and North Africa or contact info@harif.org.
