On the Banks of the Tigris: The Hidden Story of Iraqi Music.
Tuesday 29 March 2016, 8pm

Emile Cohen will introduce the London premiere of a film tracing the forgotten history of Iraqi music. Music composed by Iraqi Jews living in Baghdad but suppressed by various regimes from the 1950s through to Saddam Hussein’s Ba’ath Party rule. Iraqi-Australian writer Majid Shokor finds many of the old musicians living in Israel, the UK and Denmark and reconnects with the music of his childhood in Baghdad, culminating in a concert at the Barbican in London.
