Heroic Hélène of World War II

1 March @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Tuesday 1 March 2022, 6:30 pm UK time. Thousands of Jewish refugees fleeing to Morocco from the Nazis were assisted by a young Jewish lawyer whose heroism is only now being evaluated. Hélène Cazès Benattar put herself at risk to organise the safe passage out of Morocco of these refugees. Hebrew University emeritus professor Raphael Israeli has just published a book,  Saviors in Jeopardy, about Mme Cazès Benattar and other rescuers who risked their lives to save Jews during WWII. Moroccan-born Professor Israeli (pictured) , who taught Chinese, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies and is the author of 12 books, over 60 research papers and 100 articles,  will be in conversation with Lyn  Julius.
