Heroic Hélène of World War II

1 March @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Tuesday 1 March 2022, 6:30 pm UK time, 8:30 pm Israel time. Thousands of Jewish refugees fleeing to Morocco from the Nazis were assisted by a young Jewish lawyer whose heroism is only now being evaluated. Hélène Cazès Benattar put herself at risk to organise the safe passage out of Morocco of these refugees. Hebrew University emeritus professor Raphael Israeli has just published a book,  Saviors in Jeopardy, about Mme Cazès Benattar and other rescuers who risked their lives to save Jews during WWII. Moroccan-born Professor Israeli (pictured) , who taught Chinese, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies and is the author of over 40 books and multiple research papers and  articles,  will be in conversation with Lyn  Julius.
