GINETTE – film preview, Q&A with film-maker Nathan Minsberg

1 March 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Wednesday 1 March 2017, 8pm (Doors open 7:30 pm)

This new hour-long documentary is being shown for the first time in the UK, in the presence of the film-maker.
GINETTE is a unique look at the life of a 90-year-old matriarch, whose family is the centre of her existence. Journeying from Tunis in North Africa to her adoptive city of Marseille in France, she recounts how she hid in a cemetery during the Nazi invasion of Tunisia, her brother’s time in a forced labour camp, the American liberation in May 1943, the friendships formed with British soldiers, and the lasting trauma the war had on her life. Ginette recalls her childhood in the Jewish quarter (La Hara) of Tunis and the community’s traditions. After President Habib Bourguiba comes to power, Ginette and her family emigrate. She wittily describes her travels to Israel, her charity work, rebuilding family life and the six decades spent with the love of her life, her husband.
