80th Anniversary of the Farhud

30 May @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Sunday 30 May, 5 pm UK.

Harif (UK association of Middle Eastern & North African (MENA) Jews) and the Montreal’s Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue are joining forces to organise a Zoom commemorative event for the 80th anniversary of the Farhud.

The Farhud is the name given to the Shavuot massacre of  Jews in Iraq on 1 & 2 June 1941. It sounded the death knell for the Jewish community, and was the first of many violent episodes leading to the displacement of ancient Jewish communities from the Middle East and North Africa. Irwin Cotler, former Canadian Justice Minister, Rabbi Joseph Dweck, Sr. Rabbi of the UK Sephardi community, poetess Yvonne Green and many  others have agreed to take part. We will also have survivor testimonies. Please join us for this important commemoration supported by 26 organisations. Details here.
