The Forgotten Refugees
- Is it an issue 60 years on?
Film (49 min) and Q & A
The Muswell Hill Israel Awareness Committee
will be showing the David Project’s film, The Forgotten
Refugees. The film, made in 2006, uses extensive testimony of
refugees from Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, and Morocco and explains
how and why the Jewish population in the Middle East and North
Africa declined from one million in 1945 to several thousand
today.
In the Q & A following the screening,
Lyn Julius of Harif will examine the political implications of
the mass flight of Jews from Arab countries. She will explain
why the Jewish refugees are not just an issue 60 years on, but
are the key to achieving a just peace, and reconciliation between
Arabs and Jews. An awareness of their plight not only gives crucial
context to the Palestinian narrative, but is the key to understanding
the Arab and Islamic conflict with Israel.
