In the beginning was a school…
A film by Josy Eisenberg
French with English subtitles (90 mins)
On the eve of the Jewish Museum’s photographic exhibition
on the Jews of southern Morocco, we are proud to screen this film,
made for French Television to celebrate the 150th anniversary of
the Alliance Israelite Universelle. Josy Eisenberg traces the history
of a remarkable organisation, founded by French Jews, from its
earliest beginnings fighting 19th century anti-Semitism. Also known
as Kol Yisrael Haverim, the Alliance Israelite Universelle has
educated one million children and today has 25,000 students in
46 schools in Morocco, France and Israel.
